My friend Christi planned another wonderful room party for Ella's class for Valentine's Day. Because she also is in charge of her fifth grade daughter's party I get to run the party for Ella's room. The theme of the party was monsters. We started with a powerpoint presentation where the kids had to match a monster to the description. Then the kids were divided up into three stations. At one station they were able to play with monster play dough while getting their picture taken with a monster mouth for a class collage. The second station involved them making monster bookmarks and at the third station they were able to snack on monster treats. They kids all had fun and enjoyed all of the different activities.

Who Loves Valentine's Day?
It was kind of sad not being able to do valentines with Sam this year. Ella and I had a fun time though making her valentines and owl box. I was in the middle of a long term substitute assignment but was able to sneak away from my classroom for a few minutes to visit her party. Everyone was having a great time.

Will You Be My Valentine?
So, I am a little late getting this post up but I wanted to share the valentines that the kids chose and we made this year. We always have a fun time looking through all the ideas on Pinterest and then creating our choices. We also had Sam's valentine box to make again this year. Ella is still making bags in her classroom and can't wait until she gets to make her own box (maybe next year).
It is hard to believe this is Sam's last year making valentines. It was sad to know this is last time we would be doing this together. I understand though as we look through the valentines and it is getting more difficult to choose something that fifth grade boys and girls would like. His are a little obnoxious but he really liked them and I thought the other kids would too.
It was also Sam's last class party. He and I planned a lot of minute to win it type games again for this party since it was such a big hit at the Halloween party. This time the majority of our games involved conversation hearts so we could stick with our valentine theme. I think the kids all had a good time.

Sweet Valentines
We had fun celebrating Valentine's Day this year. Last year the kids and I made homemade valentine cards for their class parties thanks to Pinterest and it went so well we did that again this year. I enjoy being crafty I'm just not that good at coming up with ideas so Pinterest is definitely the place for someone like me. I saved some of my favorites and the kids chose what they wanted to help make. We modified them a little and had fun being creative. I think they turned out well and they both said that their classmates really liked them. We also got to use our creative juices to make Sam's valentine collection box. He wanted to do Faurot Field (Mizzou's stadium) so that is what we made. His was definitely the class favorite.
We didn't really do too much else for V-day. John had to work that night so we just all exchanged small gifts and cards when he got home. Ella made the sweetest card for John that I will have to get downloaded onto the computer. It was a nice day spent with the ones we love!

Be Mine

Sam with his valentine box...Mizzou Arena

Ella in her valentine outfit
It was a crafty V-day at the Medley house. I had looked at the store bought valentines and just didn't see any that I really thought my kids would like. So, with the help of Pinterest, we came up with some semi-homemade valentines this year. We also got to make a box for Sam to collect his valentines in so we were busy on February 13th. I think our projects turned out well but you can judge for yourselves.

Getting Crafty
It has been a crafty couple of days around the Medley house. I found this blog that has some of the best craft ideas. Now many are a little more than I really want to take on but I saw the Valentine wreath pictured above and new it was something I could handle. I thought that it turned out very well and I really enjoyed making it.
I like being crafty it's just finding the time and ideas to do so.
The second project of the week is for Ella's school. Each month she has a parent/child project and they often involve crafts. This month they were supposed to create some kind of flying spaceship. The above photos are what Ella and I made together. Thank goodness for a big brother with toys that were perfect for our idea! I thought Ella did a great job and she did most of the work herself.
