Getting Crafty

It has been a crafty couple of days around the Medley house. I found this blog that has some of the best craft ideas. Now many are a little more than I really want to take on but I saw the Valentine wreath pictured above and new it was something I could handle. I thought that it turned out very well and I really enjoyed making it.
I like being crafty it's just finding the time and ideas to do so.

The second project of the week is for Ella's school. Each month she has a parent/child project and they often involve crafts. This month they were supposed to create some kind of flying spaceship. The above photos are what Ella and I made together. Thank goodness for a big brother with toys that were perfect for our idea! I thought Ella did a great job and she did most of the work herself.

Let it Snow!

One to three inches of snow were predicted for earlier this week. John and the kids were really hoping for three or more but we stayed at just over an inch. The kids didn't let it get them down though. They still went out and tried to sled. It didn't go real well but I think they still had a fun time. They weren't able to stay out long though because the temps here were in the single digits and I wasn't going to let them get too cold.

Around the World

While the kids were out of school I tried to do some things to keep them away from the television and to keep Sam away from too many hours of video games. One afternoon we headed to The Discovery Center, which is a great little children's museum. The top floor has these little rooms that are devoted to different countries. They have books, games, clothing and information about the country they are representing. I just had to post a few pics of my kids in some of the traditional clothes!

Show and Tell Coach

One of my goals this year is to a better job blogging about not just major events but the little things that I don't want to forget. This morning while driving Sam to school was one of those moments. I was asking Ella what she would like to take to school for show and tell today. Sam and I were going over some of her new Christmas gifts that we thought would be big show and tell hits. Ella thought and decided that she wanted to take her pillow pet.
I thought this would be the end of that discussion when Sam asked,"Ella, do you know what you are going to say about your pillow pet?"
Ella replies, "No."
Sam then says, "Ella, I can help you come up with what to say. I am really good at giving speeches."
Ella gives no response but Sam goes on to give her a whole three minute speech about her pillow pet that he thinks would be great to tell her class. I wanted to laugh and knew Ella wouldn't say half of the things that he was telling her but it was so cute and sweet that he was trying to help her and was showing interest in her and her show and tell.

My Favorite Thing

I absolutely LOVE Christmas cards! I start to get excited once December hits that these jewels will soon be coming in the mail. There is something about old fashioned mail in the mail box that is so much better than an e-mail or post on your facebook wall. As the cards really start to roll in I even begin watching out the window to see if I can catch a glimpse of the mailman or I will watch my neighbors flag (which seems to be up quite often) waiting for his arrival.
I enjoy seeing pictures of my friends and their adorable children. I enjoy the notes and letters from friends that I don't talk to often enough. Each card is a treasure. I spend quite a bit of time arranging the photo cards so they can all be seen and the kids and I look at them throughout the month. It is a sad day when I know it is time to put them away. Thanks friends for all of the cards and the love they show!
